In the first game of the Subway Series, Luis Severino’s New York Mets defeated the Yankees 9-7. It was a nail-biting clash on Tuesday at the Citi Field. Ultimately, it all ended for the Bronx when Vientos hammered the first multi-homer of his career. He smashed those home runs in the second and fourth innings against the AL CY Young Award winner, Gerrit Cole.

However, this was the first time the two teams played since the departure of Luis from the Bronx.  After spending nine years with the Bronx Bombers, Luis was traded to the Queens. The 30-year-old was traded for a one-year contract of a staggering 13 million dollars in December 2023. However, seeing the absence of Met’s star player, Luis Severino, raised eyebrows amongst the fans. Right now, it’s safe to say that Luis Severino is enjoying some of the best times of his life. While not being present on the field, reporters followed him off the field. They questioned him about the differences he noticed playing for the Yankees vs. the Mets. His response? “Having a beard. Getting here, getting to know everybody.” He also said that pressure at the Mets is much less than at the New York Yankees. As he was playing with the Yankees for a long time, expectations from him were much bigger.

Speaking about the Mets fans and expectations from him, he further replied, “You come here and nobody is expecting us to win this year. That is a little bit less pressure on us. It’s just about coming here and winning games and at the end of the year we will see what happens.” With the Mets, since he has just signed the deal in 2023, the Queens fans are not anticipating much from Severino.  However, being a Yankees player for nine straight years, feelings for previous doesn’t go away that easily.

Adding his words for the Yankees, Luis Severino went on to say, I gave everything that I got to the Yankees. At the end there is no hard feelings, I love the Yankees. I love the guys out there, and I’m here because they gave me an opportunity to be somebody. You know, I went out there and gave my 100 percent.”

Severino made his Yankees debut in 2015. During his 2017 tenure, he became the ace player for the team, posting a dominating performance. However, he had to endure injuries where he missed his entire season, especially with the Tommy John Surgery in 2020. In his last innings with the Bronx Bombers, Severino had quite a disappointing 2023 year. Across 19 games, he achieved a disastrous 4-8 record along with an ERA of 6.65 and 79 strikeouts in 89 innings. Also, with the Mets, despite having a good season, will they trade him?

Is Severino trading possibility opening up again?

As the trading deadline of July 30 is approaching, the Mets might go for trading and shopping. From the rival team’s end, one player that they are interested in will be Luis Severino. Once, being one of the fierce pitchers in baseball, injuries in his career made Severino decline a bit. However, since he recovered and joined the Mets, the 30-year-old is performing well.

According to ESPN’s Busty Olney, the Yankees have been the team linked to the Severino trade. Having played most of his career with the Bronx, his return to the team will give them an added boost.

Also, as per Jeff Passan of ESPN, the veteran is drawing interest from other MLB teams. Out of which, the Milwaukee Brewers and Baltimore Orioles are the core contenders. Both the teams are dealing with injuries, and if Luis is available, they could break their banks to acquire a player worth spending money on.
