It was a day when everything went right for the New York Yankees. For the first time in a long while, the Bronx Bombers’ hitting lineup actually lived up to its name. With 4 home runs to boot, the Yankees went on overdrive to defeat the Milwaukee Brewers 15-3. However, while this was a highly impressive performance, it did highlight a deep issue plaguing the Yankees: consistency. Gleyber Torres paid attention to it during his post-game interview.
Ironically, this is an issue that is plaguing Torres as well. The Yankees first baseman finally performed like his usual self on the 27th of April. But before that, the star had been highly ineffective throughout the first month of the season. Such was Torres’ ineffectuality that he was shifted from his leadoff position and made to play in the middle of the lineup.
“I think we weren’t so good,” Gleyber Torres said, referring to the past few Yankees performances. “A couple of days we don’t do consistency all the time, but all are plays went really good with really good at-bat. I mean everybody get on base a couple times. So I think we have to continue to do that. Just having our plan before the game and try to perform on the field.”

The Yankees performed like a team possessed. While they did get lucky a few times overall with Aaron Judge, Alex Verdugo, Anthony Rizzo, and Giancarlo Stanton’s home runs, the performance was nothing short of explosive. However, hidden behind these extravagant displays was Gleyber Torres’ three-hit game.

For Torres, this came as a huge relief. The star had entered this game with a 5-for-32 recent record. As a result, the team provided full support for GT.

“Finally, I did something for the team, especially in that situation,” Torres said, referring to his 3-run double that opened up the Yankees’ lead. “There has been a lot of work in the cage. Finally, I saw a result tonight…Here in the clubhouse, we’re a family. We know how hard the game is.” (Via MLB.com) Similarly, Verdugo praised Torres’ hard work.

“He’s been going a really good job of competing, fighting and working on his craft,” Verdugo said. But while GT’s comeback is great news, the Yankees have even more things to be happy about. For the first time in this season, their entire lineup has found their groove on the same day. From pitchers to hitters, everyone brought in their A-game for the team.
With the Bronx Bombers finally firing on all cylinders, one wonders if they’ll be able to remain consistent. After all, baseball is a marathon, not a sprint and the New York Yankees need to ensure their legs don’t give up before the season ends.
