Home/MLB

Shohei Ohtani is on his way to get his second career AL MVP. This season was full of ups and downs for the player. First, his ULC tear, and next, the team?s poor performance. However, nothing suppressed his talent and personal achievements. Predictably, on Monday, the MLB Network announced his name among the top three contenders for AL MVP this season. However, one home run in particular has taken over the internet lately.

The World Series is over, and teams are now mainly busy in the free agency. And everyone is looking at Shotime?s free agency. Amidst the heating up free agency, Ohtani got this good news. AL MVP is a challenging run, but a single homer of the two-way phenom has left most other opponents behind. The only contenders left with him are Texas Rangers? Corey Seager and Marcus Semien.

The 21st Century Babe Ruth touched several milestones and created records since last 5 years. Despite a rough season, in April against the Milwaukee Brewers, he hit a home run that hung in the air for almost seven seconds.

Though Ohtani missed several games in 2023, this one home run set him ahead of most other players. This was among the longest homers in MLB history, with a 162-foot height. Taking it to social media, a fan posted, “Shohei Ohtani did many more amazing things this year and this majestic home run with SEVEN SECONDS of hang time was one of them.”

The Japanese star is on his way to being the second Angels player to win multiple MVP Awards. Prior to him, only Mike Trout held this record (2014, 2016, and 2019). Ohtani was nominated as the All-Star for both a designated hitter and a starting pitcher for the third straight year.

Though his season was cut short because of his injury, Shotime still has an impressive record. In 135 games at the plate, he has batted .304/.412/.654 with 44 homers, 26 doubles, eight triples, 20 stolen bases and 95 RBIs. He played 23 games as a starting pitcher, with a 3.14 ERA and 167 strikeouts in 132 innings. Though his homer against the Brewers broke multiple MLB home run records, the Angels stadium still holds the longest ?Moon Shot? home run record.
