The 2023 baseball season has been a bust for many so far. With good teams underperforming and surprising winners emerging, fans are not happy. Some MLB teams are riddled with players on injury lists. But one team that seems to be facing a unique problem is the Oakland Athletics. The team stands at the bottom of their division, with the Texas Rangers leading the AL West. But another problem is the Coliseum, the stadium that the team is going to abandon.

Owner John Fisher has been receiving a lot of flak from fans ever since he announced the relocation plans. The A’s will be the last team to move from Oakland, leaving the city without any major sports teams. Fans want Fisher to sell the team and are extremely unhappy. Recently, they decided to express this in a new way.

While baseball’s popularity is undoubtedly declining, some teams still get fans by the thousands crowding their stadiums, chanting their names. Oakland Athletics are not so lucky. At their recent game vs the Arizona Diamondbacks, the ballpark saw less than 3000 people in attendance.

MLB Metrics reported, “Oakland Coliseum tonight vs the 23-18 Diamondbacks: 2,064 fans, lowest single-game attendance since 1979”. In fact, the A’s series opener against the Rangers was already the 11th time that the Coliseum drew less than 10,000 fans this season and the 6th time for less than 5000 fans. The numbers are certainly worrying and fans are lashing out.

They have been openly holding signs at games for Fisher to sell the team. But if not him, who do they want to be the next owner?

After a failed Mets bid, could Alex Rodriguez purchase the Oakland Athletics?

A few weeks ago, a popular ESPN NBA commentator made the bid to buy the A’s on A-Rod’s behalf. The former Yankee is already involved with an NBA team, partly owning the Minnesota Timberwolves. But since he’s a former pro baseballer turned businessman, it would be easy to assume he wants to own an MLB team too.
