Following an MVP-winning 2022 season, Aaron Judge became a free agent and had a big decision to make. He had to decide whether to stay with the New York Yankees or move to another team. When Judge formally signed his deal, Yankees fans breathed a collective sigh of relief. But while pondering his options in free agency, the reigning MVP reportedly tried to do some offseason recruitment himself.

Judge was reportedly in contact with a Yankee legend during his free agency. Furthermore, he tried to get that legendary player to join the Yankees in some sort of management role. The player that Judge was trying to bring back to the Yankees was none other than Derek Jeter.

According to a Tweet from Chris Kirschner of The Athletic, Judge was in touch with Jeter during his free agency. When he finished signing his new deal, he even tried to get Jeter to come back to the Yankees. But the retired Yankee legend said that he didn’t know what his next move in baseball would be.

According to the Tweet from Kirschner, “Aaron Judge said he spoke to Derek Jeter a few times throughout his free agency process. After he signed, Judge said he asked Jeter how he can get him back involved in the organization. Jeter said he hasn’t made any decision on what he wants to do in baseball moving forward.”

Fans have reacted to the tweet and are happy with the thought that Jeter might be coming back, while others lauded Judge for his attempt.

It remains to be seen whether Judge has convinced Jeter to come back to the Yankees. But Yankees fans are feeling relieved that Judge’s contract was finally made official. The reigning MVP is now connected to Jeter in a way that no other player will ever be.

Judge has officially been named the next Yankees’ Captain

Aaron Judge was officially named the Yankees next captain after signing his 9-year $360 million contract. He is the first to hold the iconic position since Jeter retired in 2014. While doing so, he becomes only the 16th captain in franchise history.
