Oakland Athletics have been going through a disastrous season, sitting at the bottom of their division. Many fans have lost their faith in the team after numerous trades. To make things worse, team owner John Fisher announced that the A’s will be relocating to the Las Vegas strip in the next few years. Things are apparently going to continue moving south, both literally and figuratively.

Fans are demanding new ownership should do better. In their dissatisfaction, A’s fans seem to have abandoned the Coliseum entirely as the ballpark is breaking records for low attendance. Amid this battle, the team has made another trade in the hopes of improving their roster.

MLB Trade Rumors reported that the trade happened in exchange for cash. Lucas Erceg went from one of baseball’s top prospects to a less exciting one. But after transitioning to pitching full-time, his stats have improved somewhat. So far in this season, the 28-year-old has allowed 15 runs (11 earned) over 15 1/3 frames with Triple-A Nashville. But the Brewers already have a number of good pitchers on their roster, so it was unlikely that Erceg could have pitched in an MLB game anytime soon.

Although Erceg is a work in progress, the Oakland team could benefit from him. With their bullpen regularly being called one of the worst in all of MLB, the A’s can put that powerful arm to good use. Maybe not immediately, but fans can probably expect to see him pitch in a major league game soon.

MLB is almost a quarter into the season and the stands at the A’s ballpark seem to be getting emptier. With fans lashing out at the front office’s decisions, the Coliseum’s attendance has been getting lower and lower. It has already drawn less than 5000 fans more than 6 times this season. And when videos of the desolate ballpark started doing the rounds on social media, some fans thought even the estimated numbers of 2000+ were an exaggeration. Once, on April 17, 1979, the A’s sold just 653 tickets and saw just 250 fans in attendance. Will 2023 repeat history?
