Barry Bonds was a monster from the plate. Leave his PEDs part aside. The San Francisco Giants legend was the most dominating hitter during his time. Having played most of his career for the San Francisco Giants and Pittsburgh Pirates, Bonds was close to becoming a Yankee.

The least to describe the hitting power of Barry Bonds is that almost every pitcher feared him from the mound. Having played for the Pirates for seven years, Bonds had quite a CV for his new contract. Not many people know, but Bonds would have been a Yankee because of one call. 

What made Barry Bonds choose the Giants over the Yankees?

Recently, the Giants legend appeared in ESPN’s KayRod Cast with Michael Kay and Alex Rodriguez. And he detailed what made him sign for the Giants over the Pinstripes. When Michael asked him how close he was to becoming a Yankee, Bonds said it was a matter of 15-20 minutes.

“It was very close for about 15 or 20 minutes. Because what happened… And I tell people the two stories. The Yankees offered me the same contract… Unfortunately, they said, you have until two o’clock this afternoon to make a decision.” And I just said, I’ll get back to you about it, and I went off to go grab something to eat…,” Bonds said.

While Bonds went to grab something to eat, the Giants also called him and offered even a better contract. And that was it. Bonds could not have asked for a better deal. Because apart from a better contract, he also got to live close to his home (Bay Area).

“I didn’t really think anything of it… By the time I got to the place to go get something to eat, my agent called me back and the San Francisco Giants offered a higher contract and I said this is great. I want to go home,” Barry Bonds added.

Will Aaron Judge sign with the Giants?

Knowing that the New York Yankees star Aaron Judge is in the last year of his contract, no one can rule the Giants from signing the potential AL MVP. Just like Barry Bonds, Judge also belongs to the Bay Area. And if things go south with the Pinstripes in contract negotiation, the Giants might be the most suitable destination for the Yankees star,
