Anyone who has seen Derek Jeter play knows that his career has remained pure sporting theater. On that note, theatricality was always on route with Jeter. Likewise, he parted ways with his home turf by signing off through a thrilling victory against Baltimore Orioles. Proving out exactly why he earned the nickname ‘Captain Clutch’.
An emotional Jeter bid adieu, to his fans on home ground, beating the Baltimore Orioles by a close margin of 6-5. The game ended with Jeter in the limelight again. It was Jeter’s stylish shot off the bat for a walk-off single that ultimately sealed victory for the New York Yankees.

“I want to take something special from Yankee Stadium, ” Jeter quoted after the game. “The view from shortstop is what I want to take.”
At the post-match press conference, the otherwise level-headed Jeter described how emotions had overwhelmed him throughout the game. “You almost feel like you’re watching your own funeral,” Jeter told the reporters. “Appreciate the love, but it was difficult.”
Jeter further added saying, “Sort of an out-of-body experience.”
The stage was set for a Hollywood-style farewell
All’s well that ends well, just as was Derek Jeter’s final appearance at Yankee Stadium. In a game where the Yankees were leading by 5-2 over the Orioles and looked poised for a comfortable victory, the home team needed Jeter’s heroics for safe passage. So the man stood up to his reputation.

Defending at shortstop, Jeter saw his teammate & closing pitcher David Robertson getting smashed out of the park for two home runs. Those homers from the Orioles at the top of the ninth inning tied the game at 5-5. As if Jeter was meant to be the savior.

So Derek Jeter turned into Derek ‘Captain Clutch’ Jeter and rose to the occasion in trademark fashion. With one out and a runner at the base, Jeter was the third batter in. A safe drive allowed the victorious walk-off single. Jeter celebrated emphatically.
Present & past Teammates, including legendary figures of Yankees frame, mobbed Jeter in happiness. Amongst them were Hall Of Fame inductee and former Yankees manager Joe Torre. Also present were Bernie Williams, Tino Martinez, Jorge Posada, Mariano Rivera, and Andy Pettitte.

Jeter later stepped away from the huddle and stood in the middle of the Yankees’ ground, lifting his cap to honor the home crowd, who gave him a much-deserved standing ovation.
