Sure, Verdugo’s three-run homer off Astros legend Justin Verlander in the first inning of Tuesday night’s 10-3 victory was a display of absolute beauty. But according to teammate Anthony Volpe, Verdugo brings more to the table than just clutch hitting. Volpe, another rising star for the Yankees, revealed Verdugo’s secret weapon: “He’s just so energetic.” 

That’s not it. Volpe further declared, “He’s just so energetic and it seeps to everyone super-organically.”  These aren’t just words, in fact, Manager Aaron Boone echoed the sentiment,  praising Verdugo’s positive influence. 

Boone shared, “The guys love him in there [and] I think he loves it. We’re seeing the kind of player he is. He’s been a spark. He’s been excellent. He’s been clutch. And he definitely brings a little edge.” After all, visibly, Verdugo’s energy has been infectious and it is bringing about the impact that the club really needs. The 27-year-old also acknowledged it. 

Verdugo’s opinion on being with the Yankees

Verdugo, too, confirmed that he is happy with his new team. He shared, “I love it. I couldn’t be happier here.” This positive attitude readily translates to his performance on the field. While he seems to relish batting cleanup, he is nestled between the towering figures of Aaron Judge and Giancarlo Stanton. Despite that, his performance has been dominant and the MLB folks see it. 

Verdugo’s arrival is not the only reason for the Yankees’ recent hot streak, but his impact has been undeniable. His ability to combine on-field production with a positive clubhouse presence creates a winning recipe for the team.
