Pop sensation Jennifer Lopez, worth $400 million, is back in action, and quite literally too. The megastar, who was engaged to former Yankees superstar Alex Rodriguez, is now making a comeback as an action hero, and dawning a whole new avatar as a “murderous mother.”

‘The Mother’ will reach Netflix on May 12. Mother of two twins Emme and Max, Jennifer Lopez, plays the role of a hitman in the film and is forced to come out of hiding to protect her daughter. Since 2002, this is Jennifer Lopez’s first feature in an action movie, and director Niki Caro didn’t think there was anyone else who could fit this role better.

The trailer of the movie released a few hours ago, starring an ageless, 53-year-old Jennifer Lopez.

In the trailer, JLo says, “I’m a killer. But I’m also a mother. And I will die protecting her.”

56-year-old Niki Caro spoke to PEOPLE about JLo being the perfect fit for this role. She also expressed her surprise at learning that Lopez hadn’t been doing action movies all her life. Caro said, “Jennifer brings her legendary skill and precision to the action elements, but also brings her strength as a dramatic actor and her experience as a mother right to the heart of the movie. I knew Jennifer was the only actress for the role.”
