Baseball has seen its fair share of trades and transactions take place over the years. Some of MLB’s best teams have brought in absolute legends through trades during the free agency. This happened with Alex Rodriguez when the New York Yankees traded for him shortly before the 2004 season. At the time, A-Rod was one of MLB’s biggest stars and a player of his caliber being traded was rare.
It was a huge move for the MLB legend as he joined one of the most storied baseball franchises. Furthermore, it was due to that trade that he achieved his lifelong dream of winning a World Series. Most recently, Rodriguez reminisced about the trade 19 years later.

Alex Rodriguez being traded to the Yankees in 2004 was a league-altering move. It put him alongside superstar and baseball icon Derek Jeter. It was at this time that Rodriguez made the switch from shortstop to third baseman, to accommodate Jeter. A-Rod recently looked back on the trade and reminisced about the move in an Instagram story.
In the Instagram story, he shared the cover of the Sports Illustrated issue that announced his move to the Yankees. He was in the pinstripes and holding a bat on the cover page of the issue, a truly legendary moment. The anniversary of the trade recently passed and fans are divided even 19 years later. Rodriguez’s trade to the Yankees is a divisive topic due to his PED scandals in 2009 and 2014.

But even with all of those controversial incidents, the trade ended up being positive for both the Yankees and A-Rod. In 2009, the Yankees won the World Series, the very objective with which they traded for Rodriguez in the first place. Furthermore, the legendary third baseman played a major role in winning the title.

Shortly before the 2009 season began, Alex Rodriguez was being hammered by fans due to his PEDs scandal. His career appeared to be on the decline and his time with the Yankees seemed limited. But Rodriguez turned it around by playing great baseball during the regular season. But it was in the postseason where he really shined, hitting some clutch home runs to help the Yankees win the World Series.
