It’s wild to think about how destiny works sometimes. Alex Rodriguez, the iconic baseball legend, once gave a young Patrick Mahomes some solid advice—one that could’ve totally shifted the course of history. Imagine this: A-Rod, one of the biggest names in baseball, told Mahomes, who was just starting to make his name in sports, to follow in his father’s footsteps and pursue baseball instead of football.

Mahomes’ dad, Pat Mahomes Sr., had a solid 11-year MLB career, playing as a pitcher. He was a well-respected player in his own right, so A-Rod was probably seeing the potential for Patrick to follow that same trajectory. But instead, Mahomes chose to play football. Ahead of the Super Bowl, A-Rod posted a photo of him and Patrick Mahomes Jr. on Instagram.

Imagine the full-circle moment for him—watching Patrick Mahomes as a little kid at batting practice and now seeing him on the verge of something historic—a third Super Bowl title. A-Rod’s caption hits the perfect tone too: he’s clearly proud, but in that humble, almost nostalgic way, saying, “I’m so glad Pat didn’t listen to me!” Honestly, so did we.

And when he says it gives him goosebumps? You can almost feel the excitement and pride A-Rod must feel watching Mahomes head into what could be one of the greatest feats in NFL history. Sure, the baseball world lost an incredible player in Mahomes, but Alex Rodriguez’s was genuinely rooting for him—he’s not just reflecting on the past, but also celebrating Mahomes’ growth and success.

Mahomes could have been a big deal in baseball too

It’s crazy to think about where Patrick Mahomes could have ended up if he’d stuck with baseball! Imagine a world where we’re talking about Mahomes throwing heat on the mound instead of dropping dimes on the football field. His love for baseball was real—he was drafted by the Detroit Tigers in 2014, and his dad, Pat Mahomes, was a solid MLB pitcher for over a decade. The baseball talent was clearly there, but football had a different plan for him.

And now, here he is, leading the Kansas City Chiefs to potentially the first-ever NFL three-peat in Super Bowl history. Five Super Bowl appearances in six years and three Lombardi Trophies? That’s beyond impressive. Mahomes’ legacy is shaping up to be an all-time great; he has it all: the arm, the mobility, the leadership. He’s become the blueprint for what a modern NFL quarterback can do.

But let’s not forget: Mahomes could have been a big deal in baseball too. That’s a whole different reality we could’ve seen unfold if he’d followed his dad’s path. The question is—how would his baseball career have panned out? Would he have been as electric in baseball as he is in football? Would he have still reached this level of superstardom?
