It was a night to forget for the Boston Red Sox. They probably had one of the worst losses this season, as they were hammered in a 14-2 loss by the Detroit Tigers. It was all about the powerful offensive display showcased by the Tigers on Monday night in Detroit that was the talk of the town. However, amid the loss, Red Sox manager Alex Cora has dropped a major bomb about his brother, blaming him for their loss to the Tigers. But why?

Well, Alex Cora’s brother, Joey Cora, is currently the third base coach for the Detroit Tigers. While they both spent their Monday morning having breakfast together, a few hours later they found themselves at a crossroads, as both the teams faced off against each other. And in Boston’s loss, Joey Cora played a big role in impacting the Red Sox’s disastrous play that led to the humiliating loss.

However, deep down, we all know that it wasn’t mere blame; rather, it was a form of praise that Alex Cora showed for his brother. “He’s a game-changer at third base. What he does over there is amazing. He got them running last year, halfway through the season, and it’s one of the reasons they got better. We’ve just got to be ready,” Alex Cora was quoted saying, heaping praise on Joey, who has been with the Tigers for the last two seasons.

Putting it simply, Joey Cora has been one of the best third base coaches at the moment. His aggressive approach towards runners is worthy of praise. Tigers have been aggressively running the bases, and Joey Cora’s push is the reason for this. Likewise, on Monday night, after Riley Greene pushed a single, he pushed Colt Keith to run to the base as soon as he realized that he wasn’t sure if he should cross the plate.

And as expected, Wilyer Abreu, the Boston Red Sox’s outfielder, knowing that he had a chance to get him out, ran for the ball. Unfortunately, he couldn’t get him out as the ball went to the fence, helping Greene to score a home run, turning the scoreboard into 6-0. Alex Cora, shedding light on the matter, said, “Abreu just missed it. He was aggressive. We know they’re going to be aggressive running the bases. He rushed himself and he just missed it.

Joey Cora’s intention to encourage the players to run hard is commendable, even though the players deserve recognition for their dedication on the pitch. Meanwhile, after Monday’s result, the Cora brothers will have some time to spend together.

Reunion of Cora brothers is something that everyone hoped for

While a game can define the fate of two teams, it can never fade the relationship between two brothers, even if they work for different teams. This has been the case for the Cora brothers, who have always found time for one another even though they coach for different teams. And hopefully, they will get some more time to rejoice in the three-game series between the Red Sox and the Detroit Tigers.

Alex Cora was all praise for his brother, as he played a crucial role in the Tigers’ 14-2 victory over the Red Sox. “I love it. First of all. It happens that also his birthday is on Wednesday, so the fact I’m here is cool. To be around him and talk to him and pick his brain is something I always look forward to.” So, it was Mother’s day week and then it was also Joey Cora’s birthday on Wednesday, which made Alex Cora’s visit even more special.

He further said that competition is at his own place. They both have different teams, both are good in their own terms and both the brothers look to do their best to help their team win the game. Alex Cora, talking about Joey’s retirement, further said that he doesn’t have much knowledge of how many years he might be continuing with his role. “We have a great coaching staff here. He’s settled in with A.J. Hinch over there and is doing an amazing job. If it happens, it happens. If not, I know I’m going to have a fan whenever he retires — or I retire,” Cora said, mentioning that he would remain his elder brother’s fan regardless of who retires first-him or Joey Cora.
