In Houston, Alex Bregman is already a name on their history books! The team is anyway known not to spend an arm and a leg on free agents, so, while it’s weird that they would let go of the team’s cornerstone, it’s not shocking. Plus, the Astros have signed Cam Smith and Issac Paredes, who can both play third base. So with that, it essentially closes the door for re-signing Bregman. Not just the Astros, but the market in general is drying up in the infielder’s department. The latest is Gleyber Torres, who signed a $15 million deal with the Detroit Tigers.
Plus, the biggest problem is also the number that Bregman is looking for. He is a Scott Boras client, meaning they are going to fish for as much as possible. But for a player who has had a down year like Bregman, not many would want to spend as much. Not to mention, he is thirty years old! Brian McTaggart of MLB had reported that Bregman turned down an offer from the Astros that was around $156 million over six years. So clearly, Bregman is looking for a number not many can provide, however, he still has another option, and it’s the Detroit Tigers.
Is Alex Bregman heading to Detroit?

The Detroit Tigers have already made one big signing by taking Gleyber Torres off the market. But that isn’t enough for the team if they want to build on their 86-win season. They need more stellar players on the team, and that someone could be Alex Bregman. And it seems like talks between the parties are going on as reported by Evan Petzold of the Detroit Free Press.
Evan Petzold noted in his article, “The Tigers have strong interest in third baseman Alex Bregman. In fact, the Tigers appear to be all-in on Bregman.” He mentioned that there is mutual interest between the teams. However, there is a gap in the value given Bregman’s market is narrowing. But Bregman could be the missing link for the team, even if it cost them $200 million.
A two-time All-Star and World Series champion, he has hit 26 home runs for the Houston Astros. Plus, him in the Tigers lineup makes more sense, given his history with Tigers manager A.J. Hinch. He had managed Bregman during his initial four seasons with the Houston Astros. It was the time he clinched his All-Star appearances. So things just make sense—is this partnership destined? Time will tell!
Red Sox have a unique edge in the Bregman sweepstakes
The Boston Red Sox have been aggressive this off-season. And it seems like their next big splash can be Alex Bregman. That’s what former MLB star Sean Casey believes. According to him, the Boston Red Sox are gearing up for a potential deal for the two-time All-Star. However, if and when that happens, a little reshuffling in the team would be needed, but as Casey said, that is a good problem to have.

“If you do bring in Bregman and you just say you’re gonna throw Devers at first, where’s Tristan Casas going, who’s a big bat too? So they’d have to figure something out there. You could probably put Bregman at second base. … You’d have to figure it out, but you could definitely figure it out,” Sean Casey explained, adding, “And the addition of Bregman would definitely bring in that veteran leadership to the Red Sox. They are already gaining traction after the Walker Buehler deal; this could just make the lineup even stronger.”

But there is another reason why this deal makes sense—Bergman’s dynamic with Buehler. The duo have faced off in the World Series multiple times; they are also co-owners of March of Time, a horse that won the Santa Anita Derby, and it’s even trained by Bob Baffert! While a horse cannot be a reason for Bregman to choose, it sure gives the Boston Red Sox an edge, but ultimately, it will come down to the dollars and the team’s future vision.
For now, Boston Red Sox fans can hope that the fans and well-wishers align in line. And they are able to snag such a star from the off-season market. Do you think they can? Let us know!
