The Bregman saga is far from over! With multiple teams vying for his signature, the All-Star third baseman remains at the center of a high-stakes standoff. Despite a flurry of offers on the table, Bregman isn’t biting—his agent, the ever-demanding Scott Boras, has set terms that just don’t sit right with potential suitors. So, where will Bregman take his talents next? Buckle up, because it’s only getting started!

Bregman set the sight of north of $200 million for more than six years, which is yet to be offered by any team causing the delay. It was expected that Bregman would fetch a larger sum from other teams, which was not the case going forward. and the Astros’ offer of $156 million still stays as the highest bid for him. So, either he is not getting more than six years or north of $200 million seems impossible, leaving him without a deal with the spring season started. What can be the probable solutions for Bregman from here then?

Unexpected situation with Bregman

The challenging situation for Bregman all started when he rejected the Astros’ offer of $156 million with the expectations of fetching higher numbers going forward. However, in the real world, no other teams came up with the higher amount, and teams like the Red Sox, Tigers, and Cubs are all offering the same or higher AAV but for the short term. For the unversed, the Cubs offered $30 million per year for two years, which, though having a higher AAV compared to the Astros, is only for two years. There’s the terrible catch with the offers for Bregman.

Does he have at this point an offer he likes?” asked MLB insider Ken Rosenthal in a podcast with Foul Territory. This reflects that with Bregman sitting with multiple offers, not any one of them is meeting his demands or expectations, causing the roadblock in his signing. Rosenthal is also skeptical about how this roadblock will get resolved and when Bregman will start his preparation for the 2025 season. Well, this roadblock is costing Bregman with suitors moving away for him. The Blue Jays were in contention for him but ultimately landed Anthony Santander and moved away from Bregman. It thus seems a grim future ahead for Alex Bregman.

What’s the hold on the road ahead?

Currently, Alex Bregman has offers from the Cubs for two years, the Red Sox for four years, and the initial six-year offer from the Astros still exists. The spring season already started, and it is unlikely that a new offer would come now, leaving Bregman to select from these. Hence, Bregman can opt for a multi-year contract by going for the Astros, while he can also opt for a high AAV with the Cubs. However, getting both at once seems impossible for now.

What’s your perspective on:

Is Bregman overestimating his worth, or are teams undervaluing his talent and experience?

Have an interesting take?

The situation with Alex Bregman is unexpected considering his stats and experience, but Boras failed to foresee how the suitors are undervaluing the players post-thirties. From here, both the Astros and Cubs will work for him. However, it’s up to Bregman now to decide at the earliest, and this roadblock might make these two teams also move away from him. The Astros GM Dana Brown recently spoke about how they are waiting for Bregman’s call, citing no further push from their end. Now it seems that the decision is just about coming, and fans can see where Bregman is ultimately landing.

Time is ticking for him, and further delay will cost his last options as well. It’s time for Boras as well to be flexible with the teams and place Bregman at the earliest.
