Since then, looking at the number of increasing strikeouts, MLB has intended to enforce on-the-book rules concerning pitchers using illicit substances. It has been of great concern for MLB. But Manoah calling out Cole like this was entirely out of the blue.
Manoah called Gerrit Cole the “greatest cheater”
It is common for players to appear on various shows and answer about some controversial stuff. But what Alek Manoah acted as fuel to the already-started fire between the Yankees and the Blue Jays. Manoah went to what looked like a cookery show, and there he had to either answer the questions or drink some undrinkable liquids. One of the questions that he got asked was about who he thinks was MLB’s biggest cheater of all time.

“Gerrit Cole,” said Manoah. “He cheated, he used a lot of like sticky stuff to make his pitches better, and he kind of got called out on it.”
Looking at the history of Major League Baseball, many players used banned substances to make their game better. Yankee fans started berating Manoah soon as the clip went on Twitter, and he became a target of trolls.
Fans got brutal with their comments at Manoah
From calling him out for listing Gerrit Cole as the biggest cheater to making fun of his physique, MLB fans became more brutal with every tweet.
