After this season, he will have 5 years and $150 million remaining on his contract. The Padres have offered him 5 years and $105 million in addition to that to keep him with the team. In a Tweet, they said, “The Padres offered Manny Machado an extra five years and $105 million”. In a reply to this tweet, Talkin’ Baseball also said, “He’ll be opting out of five years and $150 million after this season”. This would make his deal 10 years long and worth $255 million.
Fans have reacted to this and seem convinced that Machado is set to leave the Padres. Some stated that the amount of money that they have offered him is not enough. Others stated he just wants to leave the Padres.

Machado has turned down the offer and looks to be entering free agency after the 2023 season. The Padres will have similar issues after the 2024 season as another star will hit the open market.
