Everyone loves the New York Yankees’ Ace Gerrit Cole. Apart from the fact that he is an incredible pitcher, and delivers nothing but his best, Cole had a great season for the New York Yankees in 2023. As a result, the ace recently made it to the headlines after his unanimous victory of the Cy Young award earlier in November. Now, there’s a new card in play.

As MLB Awards commenced in Las Vegas, the 6x All-Star outshone names like Zac Gallen of the Arizona Diamondbacks and Blake Snell of the San Diego Padres. Additionally, Spender Strider of the Atlanta Braves, and Shohei Ohtani of the Los Angeles Angels, who signed with the Los Angeles Dodgers earlier this week were also in contention.

Shortly after his last laurel, the 2x AL ERA leader received his third All-MLB first-team selection. @MLB tweeted the victory saying, “2023 AL Cy Young Award winner Gerrit Cole had an incredible season for the @Yankees. Now, the Cole Train stops to pick up his third #AllMLB First Team selection.” This was the 33-year-old’s 4th career All-MLB selection and 3rd as a first-team player.

The ace went 15-4 in 2023, with an ERA of 2.63 and 33 starts. This ERA ranked at the top in the American League. The 2x MLB strikeout leader pitched 209 innings and gave up up 157 hits. Furthermore, he made 64 runs, 61 earned and made 20 homers. Finishing with a 0.81 WHIP, he allowed hitters to bat .206 against him. It is also to be noted that this was the second consecutive season where Cole Train held batters average below .210.

This year, Cole was “Named for the winningest pitcher in baseball history, the Cy Young Award is voted upon by the Baseball Writers’ Association of America” for the American League. Another Yankee who was the second player chosen was the team captain Aaron Judge. The outfielder, who secured the 2022 AL MVP, earned a spot on the second team among MLB’s outfielders. It is not to be forgotten that he had faced a setback due to an injury during the summer. That led him to miss two months of the 2023 season, after which Judge concluded the year. He wound up with a .264 batting average, hitting 37 home runs and tallying 75 RBI. Apart from the Captain, there were other notable players too.
