Derek Jeter is an all-time baseball great and baseball Hall of Famer. He spent the entirety of his career with the New York Yankees, but even then Jeter was forced to house hunt in New York. Even though he was a baseball star, Jeter had to look at houses like everybody else. The only difference is that Jeter looked at expensive places.
In 2012, Jeter was looking for a house to rent shortly after selling his apartment. This led to him visiting an apartment that an Oscar-winning actor almost rented.

In 2012, shortly after selling his Trump Tower Apartment for $15.5 million, Derek Jeter was on the hunt for rental accommodation. In 2012, Page Six reported on it saying that “the Yankee captain looked at a 64th-floor, six-bedroom unit at the Park Imperial on West 56th Street”. Furthermore, the apartment was going to be rented by Robert De Niro, but he pulled out.
According to Page Six, “the pad was to be rented to Robert De Niro, but he backed out of the deal at the last minute.” This gave Jeter the opportunity to look at the $ 100,000-a-month rental that has a view of Central Park.

The Yankee star was recovering from an injury that he suffered at the time. Jeter suffered the injury shortly after selling the apartment and Trump connected one incident with the other. Donald Trump was upset that Jeter had sold his Trump Tower apartment and took a jibe at him.
Why did Jeter sell his Trump Tower apartment at that time?
