Derek Jeter, popularly known as Captain Clutch, announced his retirement from the MLB in 2014. After a three-year hiatus from baseball, in 2017, Captain Clutch made the decision to return to baseball through a managerial role. Consequently, in 2017, the shortstop engaged in the ownership bidding for Miami Marlins. By August, his entry into the club was formalized with a 4% stake.
Jeter’s perfect Miami welcome
Consequent to his entry into the Miami Marlins ownership, Jeter once received the most cliched Miami welcome. As reported by TMZ in a 2017 piece, Popular American rapper P. Diddy hosted a star-studded welcome bash for the 20-year Yankee.
The then-new Marlins owner arrived at the party alongside popular American pop stars, DJ Khaled, Busta Rhymes, French Montana, and Prince Royce.
Eventually, the controlling owner of the Miami Marlins, Bruce Sherman, named Jeter as the CEO. After becoming CEO, Jeter carried the Marlins to their first postseason in 18 years. Earlier this year, in February, Derek Jeter announced the end of his relationship with the Miami Marlins and the shortstop sold his 4% stake in the team.
Can Derek Jeter be the next Yankee skipper?
After the conclusion of his relationship with the Marlins, complimented by another postseason Yankee failure, New Yorkers have started demanding a change in the front office. And with Captain Clutch’s recent availability, who better to fill the role of general manager?
However, the Bronx ownership has indicated that the front office will not be considering a change and that Brian Cashman and Aaron Boone will continue serving their roles.
