Breaking records within hours—that’s Freddie Freeman. It all started with the Dodgers winning the World Series title; cut to December 15, when Freeman’s grand slam ball became the 3rd most expensive baseball. And now, his rookie cards are to experience a surge in the market, but does it end there? Apparently, no—with no fault whatsoever of his own, Shohei Ohtani is currently getting slammed by Freeman fans, and guess why?
Fans are now comparing Shohei Ohtani with Freddie Freeman; just one day ago, Ohtani won the Best Play of 2024, and even though MLB crowned him with this title, many don’t think his single season 50-50 was the greatest moment of the year—at least not after considering Freeman’s grand slam homer during the World Series. The game that made the ball change an LA family’s fortune by getting auctioned at $1.5 million
Despite his several achievements, including being a three-time Silver Slugger, an eight-time All-Star, and a Gold Glove Winner, among many others, card collectors did not have much interest in Freddie. Then came the first-ever walk-off Grand Slam in MLB World Series; now, this demand is more than 51% compared to last year. 2009 was the year when his first 1/1 autograph card came to the market; someone bought it from eBay for $690, and it was not until 2020 that this card surfaced on the market again when Freeman won his NL MVP and the card collected $39,600.

But all these records broke when his walk-off assisted the Dodgers to win the World Series. His best card is now valued at $91,500, with the difference from its first sale standing at 13,160%! This is what made fans express their dissatisfaction, who kept questioning how, despite this immense popularity, Ohtani won the greatest baseball moment of 2024!
Freddie Freeman is not lagging far behind Shohei Ohtani’s card collection market
Ohtani is still ahead in his card valuation, with at least 26,000 cards sold from September 19 to 21, during his 50-50 MLB club inauguration phase. Not just cards, but different Ohtani goodies—over 830,000 of them—have been sold just this year. More than 691,000 of them have been found to be trading cards. Till October, even though he was the most searched Dodger, Freddie’s World Series walk-off did surge his searching percentage to 1500.

Do you know that since his World Series appearance, around 1000 cards have been sold every day? Between October 29 and 31, more than 8,500 Freddie cards were sold. More than 21,000 cards have been shipped out by sellers since October 25. This explosion in his card sales shows his market is breathing neck-to-neck with Ohtani’s. So, Freeman’s World Series moves took his market up, not just among fans but among the collectors’ world, too. Now, only time can tell how this market will move forward.
