The New York Yankees are faltering in their record to grasp at a winning record in 2023. But that doesn’t mean that they don’t entertain the fans. And with several spicy characters donning the Pinstripes every season, the Yankees are almost assuredly one of the most interesting teams in baseball. And not least because they often feature some of the most entertaining players.
With the Yankees not performing to the expected standards on the diamond this season, the postseason remains in doubt. But that is not for lack of trying. With one player’s punishment for poor performance coming to light recently, it certainly seems it’s not for lack of repercussions either.

New York Yankees pitcher Tommy Kahnle, is known for being a top performer from the mound. After recently making the news for smashing a fan in the dugout after conceding a run, Kahnle’s punishments have certainly seemed to catch the public eye.
With widely trusted source Gary Phillips reports, in revelations made to a national publication, Yankees teammate Michael King made some startling revelations. Said King, “He shaves his whole body when he doesn’t do well in a game.”
The funniest thing I learned about Tommy Kahnle? He shaves his entire body when he allows a run.
“He’s like, ‘It’s a punishment. It’s a punishment. You want to be hairy,’" Michael King said. "I was like, ‘Okay… sounds good, dude.’” #Yankees @NYDNSports https://t.co/2MLLAYi4MS

Having been teammates before, King had chanced upon the star’s routine while they were in the minors. After conceding a few runs from the mound, Kahnle had been relieved by King in the minors when it happened. King walked in to see Kahnle covered in shaving cream from the waist up. Recalls King, “I was like, ‘What?’
Kahnle meanwhile sat assured. “It’s a punishment. It’s a punishment. You want to be hairy,” said Kahnle. Reportedly, Kahnle is still a believer of this theory, following it to this day. In fact, teammate Schmidt said he caught his teammate shaving prior to the All-Star break. Consequences of runs scored on Kahnle’s watch in a game against the Chicago Cubs.
But it seems the Yankees could do with a taskmaster like Kahnle, because their record doesn’t seem to match their expectations.

The New York Yankees are currently languishing in the AL East. While a highly competitive division, fans would expect that the ‘winningest’ franchise in baseball would rise to the occasion and attempt to make a run at the pennant. But 2023 is not going their way.
Now 5.5 games behind in the AL Wild Card spots, the Yankees’ offense is misfiring. And while the bullpen is pulling its weight, to win a championship, they need performances all around the team.
