A shortstop having skills that are reminiscent of Derek Jeter, Anthony Volpe has long been the no. 1 prospect in the New York Yankees organization for a longtime. And given his immense talent, the Bronx fans have been waiting for someone that could fit right in Jeter’s position. Notably, Volpe, despite his age, is a top candidate. In his first six spring training games last season, he hit .353 with a home run, two doubles, and three stolen bases.

The 21-year-old is not just the top prospect with the Yankees but also the No. 5 overall prospect in all of baseball. But there are two Bronx players that have slightly hampered his rise to the top – Oswald Peraza and Isiah Kiner-Falefa. While Peraza performed well late last season, Kiner-Falefa has not played to the expectation. Considering Volpe’s phenomenal talent, veteran sportscatser Michael Kay weighed his opinions on his place in the starting lineup.

The legendary Yankees broadcaster recently weighed in on what he thinks about the possibility of Volpe making it. YES Network posted a video of him discussing Volpe’s future prospects, where he said, “There’s a legitimate chance Anthony Volpe could make this team… But not on the bench. If he makes the team, he’s going to play every day.”

A fan favorite already, Volpe has been giving his best in spring training so far. Even captain Aaron Judge couldn’t praise him enough. “I think he’s got all the makeup tools,” Judge told Bryan Hoch. “He checks a lot of boxes — defensively, offensively. He’s a tough at-bat. He’s got the speed, which is a big factor now in the game…It doesn’t matter if you’re 19 or 41. If you’re the best guy for the job, you should be playing.”

Unfortunately for the shortstop, his future is not in Judge’s hands. Only time will tell whether Volpe will get his place in the starting lineup this season.

What do the fans think of Kay’s comments on Volpe?

The New York Yankees fans couldn’t be more excited. An amazing shortstop, backed by Derek Jeter himself, is an exciting prospect. The thirteen-year World Series drought is grating on their nerves and Volpe may just be the solution to that problem.

Some fans are questioning the front office for still not officially announcing Volpe joining the roster.

Most people can’t wait to see him out on the diamond, though.
