The 2023 season has been full of surprises. And undoubtedly, the biggest surprise of this season is the Tampa Bay Rays. Before the start of 2023, no one would have expected the terms “victory” and Tampa Bay Rays to go hand in hand. But that’s been the case. Analogous to the Rays being on top, another major surprise is the bottom of AL East, which comfortably but unfittingly houses the storied New York Yankees with a whopping $280 million payroll.

The New York Yankees, who were coming from a three-game win streak against the Oakland Athletics, failed to continue their good run. The Rays pretty much humiliated the Yankees offense (again) and almost shut them out until Gleyber Torres delivered a two-out, two-run single.

Eventually, the Bombers lost 8-2 at the Bronx, and even captain Judge, who signed a $360 million deal, couldn’t do anything about it.

Rays of sunshine beat down on the New York Yankees yet again…

Domingo German started for the New York Yankees and pitched until the middle of the fifth when he conceded his first run and skipper Aaron Boone pulled him off. The massacre began after the fifth innings when the Yankees conceded seven more runs from six to eight. Drew Rasmussen started for the Rays, and threw seven scoreless innings, before being relieved by Jake Diekman, followed by Javy Guerra, who conceded two runs in the final innings of the game.

Notably, this loss came only a week after the Yankees lost a three-game away series against the Rays 1-2, and even captain Judge couldn’t do anything, as he didn’t manage a single hit in his four at-bats.

After the game, New York Yankees captain Aaron Judge reflected on the performance of the Bombers with strong hopes of a comeback. He said, “It’s tough, especially because this [Rays] team is sitting at the top. You want to try to gain some ground on them, get a couple of wins here and keep it close. But we’ve got four games here at home, and we’re looking forward to getting that next one.”

Like on all the other days (and there have been many), fans were furious, agitated, and disappointed with their Pinstripes. Moreover, fans didn’t receive Talkin’ Yanks’ rather sarcastic caption well, which said, “They put up a great fight in the ninth.”

This is how fans reacted:
