Aaron Judge is a hard-hitting slugger and an athletic outfielder for the New York Yankees. Judge is a four-time All-Star player. Making his MLB debut with the Yankees in 2016, he has already amassed 200+ career total home runs. He won the American League Rookie of the Year award in 2017.
Nancy Newman is a reporter for the ‘Yes Network’ channel. She primarily covers news for the Yankees in MLB. She recently conducted an interview with the Yankees’ Executive Director of Publications, Alfred Santasiere III. They both talked about Judge’s cover shot in the Yankees’ magazine for the September edition.
Aaron Judge: A deserving cover page presence
Aaron Judge’s blazing form has made him the seasonal home run leader. Surpassing the 50 home run mark, Judge is looking to break Roger Maris’ American League seasonal home run record. Judge’s form has helped the Yankees to maintain a dominant presence in the season too.

And hence, Judge was an easy pick to be the Yankees’ magazine cover face in September. However, each image has a greater meaning attached. So reporter Nancy Newman met up with the Yankees’ Publications Director, Alfred Santasiere, to discuss the story in the backdrop.

At first, Newman pointed out the magazine’s cover page promotional title, ‘Power In Pinstripes.’ Santasiere was quick to remark the term was in reference to Judge. Newman questioned, “And what approach did you take in writing the story? Was it about the home run chase, or was it a bigger picture?”

To which Santasiere replied, “What it does, is it compares different home run chases in history. And just how different life was in following someone who is pursuing history. If we know Babe Ruth hit home run in 1927, people didn’t know about it till the next day, if they were in New York. And even when Roger Maris is pursuing history in 1961, you know the world was still a big place. Not quite as small as it is now. So the story really kind of goes from 27 to 61 to 2022, and it’s a really interesting piece.”
The true value of the image
The explanation put forth by Santasiere signifies Judge’s place in baseball history. In pursuit of setting a new baseball record, Judge now gets put on the same platform as the all-time greats. The parallel is with the likes of Babe Ruth and Roger Maris.
