In 2025, the Yankees’ hopes of winning the World Series again are off to a mixed start. They lost the first two games of their three-game series against the Diamondbacks after sweeping the Brewers last week. But yesterday, the Yankees demonstrated just what they can do when they are offensively focused. Team captain Aaron Judge, who is 3-for-4 with a home run and four RBIs so far tonight, is once again at the forefront of the charge. Judge seems reborn this year with scoring 5 homers already in the first week. What’s even more amazing is that he has now established a record that will go down in history with Babe Ruth.
Last year, Aaron Judge finished second to Shohei Ohtani in MLB’s top player rankings, but the tide may be turning in 2025. Just one week into the season, Judge is already outpacing Ohtani, boasting 5 home runs to Ohtani’s 3. The Yankees’ slugger has wasted no time proving he’s a home run machine, launching balls with a consistency that not only wins games but also challenges records untouched since 1932. This week, Judge further cemented his legacy by notching his 500th career extra-base hit, becoming the third-fastest Yankee to reach that milestone.
“Aaron Judge of the Yankees is the second MLB player to have 5+ HR and 15+ RBI over his first 6 games played in a season (since RBI became an official stat in 1920). The other was Babe Ruth in 1932,” OptaSTATS reported. In 1932, a season that was very memorable for Ruth reaching this milestone. Ruth’s final championship before retiring two seasons later came that year when the Yankees defeated the Cubs in the World Series. Could the same be repeated this year? Furthermore, Ruth never hit more than 60 home runs (60 in 1927) in a single season, therefore Judge’s 62 home runs in 2022 were another area in which he outperformed Ruth.

It’s important to note that Judge is unlikely to surpass all the records Ruth got or even come close to winning as many titles. After all, Judge has yet to receive a single World Series ring. Yes, that’s the only area Judge is still behind of his contemporaries. With the current form, the team is in, and with Judge hitting the homers like there’s no tomorrow, fans can hope for a successful postseason this year; what Ruth had achieved in 1932 could be replicated by Judge this year. A strong start is achieved, and all eyes are now on the World Series.

A World Series win is the only thing left for Aaron Judge
The fans frequently bring up a player’s number of World Series victories when talking about the best players in the game. Even though Judge and the Yankees qualified for the playoffs in 2017-2022, and 2024, they have yet to win a World Series. The Yankees’ biggest issue has been that their best player hasn’t performed when they need him most during the playoffs. Aaron Judge will always be remembered as one of this generation’s greatest players in terms of his hitting skills. Simply put, as the captain of the Yankees during this age, he is under more pressure than most. Judge is 33 now and given his age, he won’t be as successful as Babe Ruth or Mickey Mantle. However, one last push for a ring is what is worth this year.
This year, the Bronx is riding on high expectations and their strong start just created hope among the fans. Judge has a few years left to be active on the field and thus has many more years to receive one or two rings. For the unversed, Judge generated a .379 ISO and a wOBA of .476 in over 700 plate appearances. Although he walked at an 18.9% rate, he had a high strikeout rate. That’s what defines Aaron Judge, one of the greatest hitters of the current time. A World Series will now be a cherry on the top for him and for the Yankees. Hopefully, Judge will be able to overcome his rather infamous postseason figures that will cost the most to the team.
What’s your perspective on:
Can Aaron Judge finally lead the Yankees to a World Series, or is history repeating itself?
Have an interesting take?
While Babe Ruth is a legend, Judge is one of the greatest from the current crop if not better. A future HOFamer and a World Series would make him complete.
