Congratulations are in order for The New York Yankees as they move up the ladder. Aaron Boone, Yankees manager, who usually faces the brunt for his team?s performances, met a questionable milestone in his managerial career. All this, while his team faced off against long time rivals on Tuesday.?

Boston Red Sox and the Yankees? historic rivalry is not one to be ignored. There is always a? special feeling every time the clubs come together. But this time, it is to battle over a not-so-sought-after position.?

Fighting To Not Be In The Bottom Comes With A Historic Moment For Aaron Boone

Boston and New York commenced the four-game-series-opening doubleheader on Tuesday at the bottom of the standings in AL East. The Yankees made an entry with a 1-8 series record this year against the Red Sox. The Yankees who had last swept a doubleheader at Fenway in August of 2006, finally stepped up to the 4th rank. They tied with Boston at? 73-72, leaving their unsettling 5th position that they held in the American League East since Aug 9. This was also Aaron Boone?s 500th career win as a manager making him the 8th manager in the history of Yankees to reach that level. Thanks to Gleyber Torres.?

Boone, addressing his 500th career win said to YESNetwork, ?I wish it would have come about a month ago?. The game itself and Boone?s words of optimism put Boston in a fix. Gleyber Torres’s contribution was a cherry on top in Boone’s accomplishment and Boston’s predicament.?

Torres in this doubleheader propelled the Yankees forward. He had a go-ahead, two-run single in the 6th inning. He started with the bases loaded in the opening of a day-night doubleheader opener resulting in an endgame double play.?In the night game, he scored the go-ahead run on a bases-loaded grounder and added an RBI single in the 6th and 9th innings respectively shattering Boston’s? wildcard hopes.

Slim Chances For The Yankees Rivals

The Red Sox lost 6 of their 7 chances for the wildcard, dropping 7 games back for the AL berth. They also have Toronto and Seattle ahead, leaving them only a slim chance.

According to Fangraphs’ playoff projection for the year 2023, Boston Red Sox display just a 4.6% chance of making the playoffs at all as of 8/31. With less than a month to go they stand at 0% chance of winning the AL East.?
