When will this freefall end? That is a question that most New York Yankees fans are asking themselves. The team has fallen down the AL East and is now rooted at the bottom, hoping to make a late postseason push. Most recently, the Bronx Bombers’ manager defended himself when a top commentator questioned his baffling Shohei Ohtani move.

Notably, the Yankees’ skipper has been criticized every now and then for some poor decisions this season as the struggles continue. This has especially been true as Aaron Judge’s absence continues to haunt the Bombers. In the most recent case, his decision-making was completely dug into.

The Yankees suffered a close 10th-inning loss to the Los Angeles Angels in the away series opener. During the game, Bombers manager Aaron Boone chose to intentionally walk Shohei Ohtani in the 5th inning. But in the 7th inning, he chose to pitch to him, which led to the game-tying 2-run home run. Most recently, James O’Brien, better known as Jomboy, questioned the decision while taking a dig at Boone. He said that he would’ve walked Ohtani in both situations. Talkin’ Yanks shared a video of the interview, as the Bombers’ skipper attempted to defend his actions.

In the video, when Boone asked Jomboy if he would walk Ohtani, the commentator said, “I would’ve”. The Yankees skipper then asked if he would have walked Ohtani in the 9th inning as well, when the Angels star struck out and Jomboy said, “Yeah, I’m pretty scared of that guy right now. He’s hitting home runs like crazy.”

He further explained saying, “Obviously he doesn’t homer all the time, but he’s in a stretch right now.” In defense, Boone remarked, “When you manage the team, you can make that call then”. Following this, Talkin’ Yanks shared a mocking Tweet naming Boone the performer of the day as the Yankees lost 5-1 in the second game of the series.

This was a savage move as the Bombers manager’s defensive attitude continues to be on display. Another loss added to the team’s record as the situation continues to worsen.

The scrutiny surrounding Boone’s decision-making has increased exponentially this season. Close games have been lost due to some bad calls in clutch situations. Furthermore, despite great pitching outings, he has been unable to properly execute when needed. Despite this, he seems to have the backing of the ownership.
