Few teams have had as poor a middle portion of the season as the New York Yankees. As the trade deadline crept up toward the end of July, the team was last in the AL East. Furthermore, fans were clamoring for moves to improve the roster. Legendary shortstop Derek Jeter called for a Juan Soto trade and he was not the only one.

But Yankees general manager Brian Cashman failed to get a deal done. This has left the team in a pickle despite Aaron Judge returning from injury. Notably, the Bombers’ skipper said a few words on the incident when questioned regarding the trade deadline.

As the trade deadline approached, fans mocked respected Derek Jeter over bizarre trade comments. The Yankees’ former captain had called for the team to acquire San Diego Padres star Juan Soto. But as the deadline drew closer and closed, a deal did not materialize. Most recently, Bombers skipper Aaron Boone revealed that he wanted Soto as well, but that San Diego was not trading him. While appearing on the ‘Talkin’ Yanks’ podcast, he mentioned this massive revelation.

During the podcast, Boone said, “Yeah, but like I want Soto, the Padres were not sellers. So, you know that’s, you’re bringing up these things. Trust me, I think all the conversations were had”. He further defended the New York-based team’s moves, saying that all options were exhausted. This puts them in a very difficult position as the American League and AL East, in particular, remain competitive.

Now, with the postseason 2 months away, the Yankees will have to sprint to the finish line. Furthermore, as October nears, the games will get tougher and more gritty. This latest trade deadline has been somewhat disappointing for the team and its fans.

The Yankees Made No Moves

Despite injuries and poor batting form in recent weeks, the Yankees stood pat. They did not make a single major move, despite multiple rumors as the trade deadline passed. Furthermore, with a clear need for a left-handed batter and outfield depth among other things, the roster is not looking good. The Yankees will need to stay healthy and have an amazing form to create a chance for the playoffs. Only time will tell if they get to play some October baseball.
