A Starbucks Barista Once Revealed How Derek Jeter Changed While Dating ‘Friday Night Lights’ Star Minka Kelly

As a baseball superstar, Derek Jeter has been in a number of relationships over the years. Most of his relationships were heavily publicized. Jeter’s fame led his personal relationships to become the subject of many headlines. And that extended to what his girlfriends did as well.

Such incidents led to Derek Jeter being very private and keeping the details of his relationships a secret. But a Starbucks barista once revealed a controversial account he had with one of Jeter’s girlfriends.

According to a Barista, Minka Kelly was a bad influence on Derek Jeter

Back in 2009, a barista from Starbucks said that Minka Kelly was changing Jeter for the worse. In a Gawker article, the barista said, “Derek used to be one of the nicest people to step foot in the door. He was always smiling, happy, friendly. If you messed up his order, he wouldn’t bitch you out like other people would, and he was a very generous tipper.”

The barista went on to say that the next few times Jeter seemed to be a different person. He didn’t smile or tip and seemed unhappy. After initially chalking it up to a bad day the first time, when it kept happening, the barista knew something had changed.

They then recounted Jeter’s last time at their Starbucks and said, “The last time he came in wasn’t alone. He walked in the door, plopped down at the first open table, and started texting like a madman on his phone. Minka came up to order. She looks harmless enough, but when she opens her mouth? Yeah, not so much. She’s rude, demanding, and has one of the most annoying voices I’ve ever heard.”

This account from the barista is just one side of the story. Although there may be truth to it, it’s impossible to know without hearing the other side of it. But the barista would’ve felt relieved when Jeter and Kelly did eventually break up in 2011 following 3 years of dating.

Why did Jeter and Kelly break up?

Jeter and Kelly never specified a reason for the breakup and chose not to make that knowledge public. But sources have stated that the two were very focused on their respective careers and that a breakup was inevitable.
