Barry Bonds is one of the greatest players in modern MLB history. He graced the sport for almost two decades, claiming multiple awards and accolades. It all happened after his hard work, commitment, and also the guidance he received during his early. Being born to a baseball father did shape Barry Bonds’s career, but it also a sense of envy in him. Though he achieved everything in life but was still insecure about his career. On page 42, the authors have written about it. It reads,” Barry Lamar Bonds, the San Francisco Giants’ marquee player of the 1990s, was a narcissistic yet deeply insecure man, often surly and rude, always self-absorbed. Driven by hubris, he was offended by the idea that anyone in baseball was greater than he.”

They addressed the reason for it by relating Barry’s relationship with his father. They wrote, “Some who were close to Bonds thought his drive to be acknowledged as the game’s premier player flowed from an intense sense of rivalry with his father, a baseball player whom Bonds seemed to emulate and resent in equal measure.”

This seems to be one chapter that puts Bonds with a difficult personality to contend with. He has addressed his difficulty in making friends and often equated it with the ego. But on the baseball field, Bonds was simply a class apart.

In MLB history, Barry Bonds has many records in his name. In a career span of over 2,900 games, he scored 2,227 runs. He won the NL MVPs award seven times and was part of the 14x All-Star teams. With 762 home runs and a record of most HRs in a single season, he is a synonym for hard work. There is no perfect answer to whether his rivalry led him to achieve all this. But even if that is the case, barring all the differences, he would remain an inspirational figure for generations to come.
