Standing at a net value of a mammoth $6 billion, Major League Baseball’s franchise, the New York Yankees, is no doubt the richest team in the league. But does it spend as much as it earns? Despite being the biggest force in the entire MLB, the Yankees are still not the team who have spent the most on their players.
Per reports, there is another team who has topped the Pinstripes in spending a big chunk on their players in the last years. And for those wondering it could be their arch-rivals Boston Red Sox, it is a National league team. What is more surprising is that this NL side is worth half of what the Yankees are worth. So which team is it?
How much did the New York Yankees spend compared to their rival teams?

For those unaware, they are none other than the New York Mets. Combining the past three off-seasons, the Yankees have spent $833 Million on recruiting new players. Whereas the Mets, who took the first position in spending money on their players, have spent a whopping $1.6 billion, which is nearly half of their net value, per a Forbes report.
Whereas the Yankees’ fiercest rival on the field, the Boston Red Sox, did not even make it to the top 10 list of the said list. Aside from the two New York City teams, the team that took the third position is the American League’s Texas Rangers, which spent just $3 million less than the Yankees, i.e. $830 million; despite their net worth being less than the Mets.

However, there were a few other shocking teams on the list that the fans pointed out to be too good to be true.
What did the fans say about the teams on the list?
The Dodgers and the Astros taking positions at the bottom of the list didn’t sit right with the fans, as they are among the top teams of MLB. While others talked about Boston not being on the list and the Twins wrongfully being there.
The Dodgers and Astros are listed #7 and 9. The Braves aren’t even on the list. They have been the three best teams by far and it’s not even close.

The Twins don’t belong on this list. The signing of Correa was a one year 35 million dollar deal. Everybody knew it.

I’m a Twins fan and I refuse to believe that they spent $355M.

Where is Boston? Weird. Oh ya, Chaim Bloom doesn’t like spending money in a major market.

Our small market Red Sox did not make the list. It’s always the big markets like San Diego, Arlington Texas and the Minneapolis/St. Paul region that buy all the free agents.

Where are the Red Sox ranked for spending in the last three offseasons??

Yet RS still go over the threshold and pay penalties for fielding a mostly AAA team. All while charging the highest prices for attending a game at Fenway. Mind boggling.

@RedSox you have the highest tickets and baseball and still can’t manage to get into the top 3 for spending and put a crap product on the field

@yonimlb this doesn’t make sense. The Dodgers overspend and try to buy championship. No way there not even top 5

Hard to fathom the Cubs are #8 #Cubs

More than the Dodgers and Astros, it seems like baseball fans were rather furious over the Red Sox not being on the team. According to them, the Red Sox has the highest prices in tickets, and it takes much more money than other teams to go see one of their games. Seems like New York Yankees’ fiercest rivals have a tough time winning the free agency.
