Captain Clutch’s Turn 2 Foundation
Derek Jeter made his New York Yankees debut in 1996, four years after his minor league career began and the Pinstripes picked him sixth. After his dream eventually reached a very appropriate fulfillment and the shortstop approached the end of his rookie year in 1996, Jeter proposed the initiation of his foundation.
Jeter’s father, Charles Jeter, spoke about Jeter’s idea to start the foundation. Substance abuse counselor, Charles, elaborated on Jeter’s idea, and said, “It was his idea. He asked me to be involved. I said, ‘Yes. if you’re serious.”
At that point, Turn 2 Foundation had already raised a giant sum of above $10 million. In 2010, Jeter’s sister Sharlee Jeter took over as the President of the Foundation. Notably, Jeter also won the Sports Illustrated Sportsman of the Year award in 2009.
