Derek Jeter is recognized as a legend in the baseball world. His years with the MLB and his exceptional performance on the diamond have endeared him to the people. But just as Jeter was a star in the ballparks, he is considered one outside it too. Jeter’s unique sense of fashion meant whatever he wore looked good on him. The former Yankees captain has an iconic photo from 2000 where he can be seen wearing a varsity jacket and holding up a camcorder.
2000 was the third consecutive year that the New York Yankees had won a World Series, this time against the New York Mets. Jeter was part of a ticker tape parade for the Yankees’ 26th World Championship win, which happened in New York City. And understandably, Jeter would want to record such a historic moment.
But when asked about that footage, Jeter had an unexpected answer.

Derek Jeter lost the tape from his famous camcorder photo
That’s right, the Captain doesn’t know where the footage is! In an interview with GQ magazine, Jeter said, “I have no idea where the footage is. It’s lost. No Clue. And I’m so disappointed in that. I was moving a few years back. And I thought maybe I’d find it when we were moving, but I have no idea where it is.”
Anyone would be disappointed after losing the record of such a remarkable day. But at least the Internet has preserved this day in its memory forever. The picture shows Jeter recording Broadway street, where the parade took place. Fellow teammate Chuck Knoblauch is standing on his right, also wearing the famous sunglasses from the early 2000s.
Jeter is going to be inducted into GQ‘s Sports Style Hall of Fame
