Apart from helping him achieve his goal of playing baseball at the highest level, Jeter’s father also made him realize how to value things while playing games and beating him.
During one such game before school, Jeter’s father taught him how to value everyday items. It happened early in life for the former Yankee, but eventually, it helped him value things. It also helped him push his net worth to a massive $220 million.
At what age Derek Jeter started to learn how to value things?
Jeter and his father used to watch a TV show called, ‘Price is right.’ In the show, people used to guess the price of certain things. But since Jeter was only 6 years old at the time, he couldn’t guess the right price. Therefore, his father won against him all the time at all the games.
He confessed, “My dad used to beat me at everything. He would never let me win. Never. We used to watch The Price Is Right, and we’d play the showcase showdown. I didn’t know how much a refrigerator or a new car cost—I was six years old. We’d sit there, and he’d beat me, and then I’d walk to school.”
