Throughout his 20-year playing career, Derek Jeter harbored the ardent aspiration to become an MLB team owner. This dream came close to becoming a reality in 2017, when Jeter acquired a 4% stake in the Miami Marlins through a $1.2 billion purchase from the controversial former president, David Samson.

Soon after David Samson completed the sale of the Miami Marlins to Derek Jeter and stepped down as the team’s President, the $200 million man attended a party where he exclaimed a loud “F**k you” in response to some jeering onlookers.

The stained Marlins owner, widely criticized for his move on spending a large amount on LoanDepot Park, faced large amounts of criticism from the Marlins fanbase. As a result, the heckles multiplied and boos were the only chants that surrounded ESPN personality, Dan Le Batard’s birthday party in Miami before Samson entered. But Samson expressed his true feelings about the crowd’s mocking.

According to a TMZ piece from December 2018, Samson, while boasting his $1.2 billion sale, said, “Thank you so much. Thank you very much. Here’s why I love when you guys boo me. Right? I want you guys to keep booing me. Because guess what? $1.2 BILLION! F*ck you!!!!”

Mr. November, or Captain Clutch’s ownership dream became a reality with that $1.2 billion sale before Jeter was promoted to the top of the Marlins, as their CEO.

When did Derek Jeter leave the Marlins?

In April 2021, four years after stepping into the Miami Marlins ownership team, Derek Jeter decided to sell his stake, and exit the franchise. Up until today, numerous people believe that Jeter made a massive mistake by going to Miami, and that tainted his stainless and perfect MLB career.

But in 2021, Marlins owner Bruce Sherman made a comforting statement for all Marlins by committing to the Marlins for the rest of his life.
