The Houston Astros may have won the 2022 World Series but the Philadelphia Phillies gave them some stiff competition. The team won the National League pennant and recently received their championship rings amid much fan attention. One major player that led to this success was Bryce Harper, twice the winner of the NL MVP. The designated hitter proved the worth of his lucrative contract when he led his team to their first postseason appearance in 11 years.

But the 2022 off-season spelled trouble for the 30-year-old as he had to undergo Tommy John surgery. The Phillies announced the slugger would miss part of the 2023 season as he recovered. Harper has yet to appear in a game this year but he did give fans an exciting update recently. Game 5 of the National League Championship Series 2022 proved to be an important game for the Phillies as well as Harper’s career. Against the Padres’ Robert Suárez, Harper hit a 2-run home run in the bottom of the 8th that ended up being a game-winning hit for the Phillies. It advanced the team toward the World Series, even if they didn’t win.

This solid performance by the DH earned him the NLCS MVP at the end of the game, a title fans still remember. When Harper arrived to collect his ring at the Phillies’ ceremony, a large section of the crowd chanted “M-V-P” for him. It was a thrilling moment that proves the 30-year-old has cemented his status as a star-quality player. Now, all that remains is for him to come back for the season, which might happen sooner rather than later!
