The MLB season so far has been filled with excitement, disappointments, and surprises. It became more interesting as the MLB neared its trade deadline. Though many names floated in, the name of Shohei Ohtani was at the forefront of the discussion. With multiple teams lining up to have the signature of the two-way phenom, the market was on its toes. Although the Mets looked a clear winner in this race, the same has not happened, attracting reactions from as far as cross-sports world.
The price tag on Ohtani was more than half a billion dollars, and only a few were advancing with the deal. And the New York Mets were quite open about it. But they failed to get the deal done, even after selling their two aces before the trade deadline. It all garnered fans’ mixed emotions, including the 4X NBA All-Star Donovan Mitchell. After he described his disappointment in the open, fans joined in their claims regarding the deal.

Shohei Ohtani has been the talk of the town since rumors of him joining the Mets floated. But the move never materialized, and the focus shifted to the deadline moves by the Mets selling their aces. The Mets traded Max Scherzer to the Rangers and Justin Verlander to the Astros. The two combined were one of a $216,000,000 deal with the Mets. And it seemed they were looking to offload them for a big Ohtani move.
But the case was different and got all the attention of the Mets fans, including Cleveland Cavaliers shooting Guard Donovan Mitchell. He even took a dig at the Mets with his Twitter post.

Max while answering the question about the Mets’ said, “I asked kind of what’s going on, and [Eppler’s] answer was he’s now shifting vision, and they’re looking to compete now for 2025 and 2026 — 2024, it was not going to be a reload situation in New York.”

It seems the trade deadline deals from the Mets have generated mixed responses. But given the Mets would have another opportunity to sign at the end of the season, they can make amends to it. Though, for that, they have to finish this season better. Will they be able to do it? Let us know in the comments.
