Derek Jeter is an icon of both baseball and the City of New York. During a 20-year career with the New York Yankees, he achieved everything that is possible in baseball and earned the respect of people all over the world. From other celebrities to fans, Jeter is respected by all for his achievements.

This stands true even today, nearly a decade after The Captain’s retirement. But there was one moment of recognition from another iconic player, who is adored in the US and the world over, that Derek Jeter might consider special even today.
LeBron James lauded Derek Jeter in a Facebook post
On the day that Derek Jeter played his last game at the Yankee Stadium, LeBron James shared a post on Facebook in honor of the Yankees great. The post was a picture of LeBron saluting The Captain and congratulating him on his achievements. In the Facebook post, the LA Lakers legend said “Salute to THE captain, Derek “Mr. November” Jeter. Incredible guy, incredible ball player, incredible role model. Going to have the James gang watching tonight. Best of luck in retirement!”
The post was a show of respect from one of the sporting world’s greatest athletes to another. Although Jeter was not on social media at the time, he must have responded to James’ post in some other way.

At the time, James had won 2 NBA Championships and was in the prime of his career. But he took the time to post a message for one of baseball’s greatest champions in Derek Jeter. The post must have brought some good luck for The Captain as he hit a walk-off single to win the game. With the game tied at 5-5, Jeter came up clutch with this hit and won the game for the Yankees.
Jeter was inducted into the Hall of Fame in 2020
In 2020, Derek Jeter was inducted into the Baseball Hall of Fame with 99.7% votes from the Baseball Writers’ Association of America. And in doing so fell 1 vote short of becoming the second player in baseball history to be named unanimously.
