Cleveland Cavaliers owner Dan Gilbert is in mourning. He suffered the loss of his son Nick Gilbert, who tragically passed away at the age of 26. There has been an outpouring of support for the Gilbert family. Most recently, Dan thanked the Cleveland Guardians for their kind gesture while remembering a fond memory of his son.

Nick tragically passed away due to complications of neurofibromatosis 1, also known as NF1. It is a condition that causes tumors to grow on the brain and spinal cord along with other complications. This gesture by the Guardians is a touching way for the MLB team to honor the Cavaliers owner’s son. Furthermore, Dan recognized the team for it.

Dan Gilbert suffered a tragic loss as his son, Nick Gilbert, passed away. In the aftermath of the news breaking out, people have shown support for the family. The Cleveland Guardians honored Nick on their billboard at Progressive Field. In response, Dan thanked the Guardians while remembering the 2016 World Series win in a Tweet. He recalled how his son attended the last game of the Series with him and rooted for the Cleveland-based MLB team to win.

In a Tweet, the Cavaliers’ owner said, “Thank you, @CleGuardians. Much appreciation. Nick loved Cleveland – especially the people of Cleveland. The parade in 2016 was one of the happiest days of his life. He also attended the last game of the 2016 World Series with me, pulling for Cleveland with everything he had.”

This gesture truly touched Dan as his family mourn the loss of Nick, who was full of love and life. The 26-year-old is famous for being the Cavaliers’ lucky charm at NBA draft lotteries. He was seen with his father and alone at the event multiple times, helping the team pick up some great picks. The Cavaliers honored him in their own way this past season.

Throughout the 2022-23 NBA season, the Cleveland Cavaliers honored Nick Gilbert. During warm-ups, Cavs players wore bowtie emblems in honor of Dan Gilbert’s son and raise awareness about NF1. The Gilbert family regularly raised money and contributed millions to developing a cure for the disease.
