Home/NBA

Basketball and Baseball have had a crossover in Phoenix. The underway Fall Classic is nothing short of a stage for basketball A-listers to appear in support of their state. While the two are beloved figures from the realm of the NBA, their presence hints at a previous sad game for Arizona.

No doubt that the two are at Chase Field for the Arizona Diamondbacks. Nevertheless, one can’t help but recall the time when things went south for the Snakes when the NBA royalties were in attendance. It’s time for a flashback to Game 5, NLCS!

The Philadelphia Phillies battled hard against the Arizona Diamondbacks on that Saturday. To witness that were the Phoenix Suns’ Devin Booker and Kevin Durant. They came for the game prior to the start of their season that week. But unfortunately, Arizona lost to the Phillies 1-6. Owing to the fact that the last time the Phoenix Suns’ stars were present for a D-Backs game, they lost; could it mean that history will repeat itself?

Wearing the team cap during the ALCS’s game 5, Durant was delighted to be cheering on his fellow Grand Canyon State squad. The D-backs have advanced considerably since then. However, the Texas Rangers were quick to catch up to the former underdogs. As Game 5 of the World Series progressed, the win certainly seemed lopsided, with the Rangers in the lead.

The Rangers have won their first ever World Series title. Though KD and Devin Booker could not witness their team win, they were spectators in history being made for the Lone Stars. Well, the bad omen did play out for the D-Backs, but the dominant reason for their loss turns out to be self inflicted. Or so does the result say.

The somewhat-predictable game only needed a spark. Then Corey Seager did it! He ended the Rangers’ hitless streak and came around to score Mitch Garver’s base hit for the game-winning run, giving Texas a 1-0 lead. And 2 innings later, the Rangers’ lifted their first-ever World Series title.
