Derek Jeter is one of the biggest icons that baseball has ever seen. And during his long baseball career, Jeter has built friendships with a number of athletes and celebrities. One of his more notable ones is his well-established friendship with Michael Jordan. The two have built a close bond over the years after their initial meeting.

Jeter holds Jordan in high regard and considers him to be one of his closest friends and almost like an elder brother. But the Yankee shortstop once nominated his close friend to a popular challenge at the time.
Derek Jeter chose Michael Jordan for the ALS Ice Bucket Challenge
In 2014, Derek Jeter accepted the ALS Ice Bucket Challenge and in turn nominated some people to do it as well. One of these people was none other than his close friend and Chicago Bulls legend, Michael Jordan. Moments before being doused in the icy water, Jeter chose his people. He said, “So I gotta challenge a couple of people. Hannah Davis, Kevin Connoly and Michael Jordan.”
Jeter then gave the go-ahead and a bucketful of icy water was poured over him. The Captain reacted to the cold water but was able to stay seated till the whole bucket was empty. And completed the challenge successfully.
The Captain naming Michael Jordan among his nominees was not a surprise considering their close friendship. And the growing popularity of the Ice Bucket Challenge at the time. Many celebrities and famous athletes were taking it at the time.
The ALS Ice Bucket Challenge gained popularity in 2014 to raise awareness of Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis (ALS) and encourage people to donate to its research. ALS is also popularly known as Lou Gehrig’s disease, named after the famous Yankee star.
Did Jordan accept Jeter’s challenge and complete it?
Michael Jordan did, in fact, accept Jeter’s challenge and carried it out while nominating people himself. He completed the Ice Bucket Challenge successfully. Similar to Jeter, Jordan sat on a chair and challenged people to do it as well before being doused in icy water.
