The Subway Series finale may have ruined Anthony Volpe’s fanboy moment. The New York Yankees’ young shortstop had a dream come true when he met New York Knicks’ Jalen Brunson. Volpe’s fandom for Brunson has been known for a long time. However, the Yankees’ current form may have dampened this wholesome moment for the fans and their young shortstop.
As Yankee Stadium awaited the finale of the Subway Series, they had a New York icon watching the BP. Newly re-signed Knicks superstar Jalen Brunson decided to visit the stadium, partly to fulfill Volpe’s dream. The Yankees shortstop had revealed during the Spring Training that he dreamt of swapping his shirt with Brunson. That dream came to life on June 24th. But surprisingly it was not met with much fanfare.

While the New York Yankees hoped to come back after a game 1 loss, they also had a special guest to cater to. Jalen Brunson first shared a moment with the captain Aaron Judge and then made his way towards Anthony Volpe. The two athletes had a laugh and Volpe finally got to exchange his shirt with the Knicks star.

However, while that was a memorable moment for Volpe – what followed was anything but that. The New York Yankees were annihilated by the Mets. On top of that, they got swept in the Subway Series for the first time since 2013. This series loss left a sour taste in fans’ mouths who ended up having a brawl with the rival fans.
As for Volpe – while he’s on an upward trajectory, he still isn’t meeting the standards he set earlier in the season. That has frustrated the fans even more – which in turn has forced them to lash out at the team after this video’s release. Despite being a wholesome moment for Anthony Volpe, the fans want the Bronx Bombers to give them a reason to celebrate on the field.

New York Yankees fans show their growing anger for the team
After the Yankees’ embarrassing loss, this video was flooded with comments questioning the team’s commitment. “When are we firing Boone?” said a fan. This has been a big demand within the fanbase since the day this slide began. Despite starting the season on a massive roll, Aaron Boone’s Yankees have collapsed spectacularly in a way that is giving deja vu of 2023. As a result, the fans are demanding strict action against the skipper.

“Concentrate on baseball,” wrote another Yankees faithful. The Bronx Bombers have lost 22 of their last 32 games. From having the best ERA in baseball to now conceding 10+ runs in a game, the Pinstripes have completely collapsed. As a result, fans want them to focus more on baseball than on such media events. But this demand is a little difficult to follow for a brand as big as the New York Yankees.
“Yankees seem to have more passion about the Knicks than the Yankees,” commented a fan. Passion too has been one of the biggest demands that fans have from the New York Yankees. Despite losing continuously, the fans can’t see the management and players making drastic changes to fix things. That has added to their frustration. Especially because the trade deadline is near and the team still looks far from making any blockbuster trade.
“The whole Yankees lineup besides Soto and Judge needs to jersey swap,” said a fan. That is an interesting idea. However, it is once again showing just how imbalanced the Yankees’ hitting staff is. Even though Anthony Volpe has improved a little, Aaron Judge and Juan Soto still carry the brunt of the Yankees’ offense. And that is not a sign of a World Series-winning side. So it is natural for fans to fear that the Bronx Bombers might extend that Fall Classic drought to their 16 years.

“W Volpe,” said a fan. That was a rare positive comment in this video. However, for Volpe, this was indeed a win. He was able to realize his dream but the massive loss that his team suffered may have soured it a little. Still, it doesn’t make this moment any less wholesome for sports lovers.
So as it stands, the fans have made their anger known to the New York Yankees. Will they do anything about it? With the trade deadline fast approaching – one wonders whether Brain Cashman will find players to arrest this fall. What’s your take on this? Share below.
