Ever wondered how quickly headlines change? Look at the Minnesota Timberwolves and Alex Rodriguez’s saga to get the answer. Just a few months ago this was destined to be a match made in heaven. The team was going through its best performance in years, and Rodriguez and Marc Lore were about to become its owners. They were all set to usher into the new era but then all of that came undone. Now the duo embittered in a bitter war of words with the team’s ownership.
The T-Wolves owner Glen Taylor believes A-Rod and Lore weren’t suitable for the team – as proven by their late payments. On the other hand, Rodriguez believes that he arranged the funds on time but Taylor was being too impatient. However, the latest twist has just come in this tale. Now questions are being raised on the New York Yankees legend and his inability to arrange the necessary amount to buy his share.

New York Post’s recently reported how Rodriguez’s group continuously missed deadlines to buy out the team. While it had already been reported that Marc Lore was conspicuously absent from this fund-raising round, now it’s been revealed that Rodriguez’s insufficient funds was a major hindrance to a total buyout.
The issue isn’t that Rodriguez couldn’t arrange the money on time, it was how this habit could harm the Timberwolves’ future. “If you don’t have the money to make the transaction, how are you going to be able to run the team?” said The Post’s source. For a team that’s guaranteed to cross the luxury tax threshold next season this inability to raise funds by the owners becomes an immediate worry.
As a result Glen Taylor increasingly felt that he was far better positioned to lead this young team. That resulted in the relationships souring between the partners and fractured whatever chances Rodriguez had of owning the team. However, even though Taylor felt that A-Rod and Lore were a detriment to the team’s fortunes, the duo had different things to say.

Arbitration is likely as the rift grows wider
Rodriguez and Marc Lore note that they brought in Tim Connelly as the Team President in 2022. Connelly is partly responsible for the current winning group in the T-Wolves. Similarly the duo claim responsibility for the Rudy Gobert trade, something that improved the team’s standing.
As a result, Rodriguez and Lore do not believe that they were a detriment to the team. Similarly, they insist that despite what Taylor’s said they arranged the funds in time. As a result, both sides are currently standing with daggers pointed right at each other.

In this scenario, an arbitration becomes all the more likely. However, there’s no clarity yet on when that will commence. Until then its a war of words between Rodriguez and Taylor.
