Alex Rodriguez has been keeping busy. The former New York Yankees player never seems to take a breather in between handling different projects. From fatherhood to A-Rod Corp to MLB analyst, the retired athlete does it all. Striving for perfection, Rodriguez’s baseball habits have followed him into retirement. But if there’s one area of his professional life where he is remotely lacking, it’s the NBA and WNBA.

After failing to purchase the New York Mets from the Wilpon/ Katz family in 2020, A-Rod switched sports. Partnering up with businessman Marc Lore for a share in the Minnesota Timberwolves and Minnesota Lynx proved fruitful. Although under new management, the teams are still discovering new identities, their owner is always rooting for them.

Bit by bit, player by player, and year by year, the T-Wolves have been improving. With A-Rod and Lore manning the front, the NBA team made it to the playoffs in both the 2021-2022 and 2022-2023 seasons. Unfortunately, Minnesota lost to the Denver Nuggets in the first round of the NBA playoffs in five games. They still managed to snag the eighth seed but the Finals were a dream that was ultimately lost for the season. But Rodriguez has not yet given up hope for his Lynx, a WNBA powerhouse.

The team is no stranger to multiple playoff appearances and in 2023, they’re gunning for their fifth WNBA Finals Championship. A-Rod cheered for the team behind the scenes, sharing a post from the Lynx’s Instagram to his story. He captioned it, “Playoffs game one @minnesotalynx !!”

Unfortunately, even with the former shortstop as a lucky charm, the Minneapolis team failed to win their first game against the Connecticut Sun. After an 0-6 start to the season, the postseason had looked out of reach for the Lynx, just like Rodriguez’s former team this year.

But unlike the Yankees, the WNBA team rallied to end the regular season with 19-21, becoming third in the Western Conference. Now they’re ready to win it all.

A-Rod Will Earn Majority Ownership Title by 2024

Earlier this year, Lore and Rodriguez completed the second of three payment installments to Glenn Taylor for Minnesota’s NBA and WNBA teams. The unusual arrangement of letting the payments span a few years allowed Taylor more control over his teams. But most importantly, it gave time to the new owners to familiarize themselves with the basketball world.
