The iconic golf legend, Tiger Woods, once talked about the baseball legend, Derek Jeter’s newfound passion for golf post-retirement. Derek Jeter retired from baseball in the year 2014. The two iconic figures of their respective sports have remained friends since the late 1990s. But they never played golf together until the year 2016, which is when Jeter began fine-tuning his golf skills, under Woods’ guidance.

Tiger Woods is a genuine champion and living legend of the golf course, breaking records and winning numerous trophies to his name. He is a true icon of the sport, whose popularity level and global outreach exceeded the golf fan base. Whereas Derek Jeter is a legendary baseball Hall Of Fame inductee, with five World Series Title victories under his belt. Two athletes with towering success in their personal careers.

After bidding farewell to an epic baseball career, Derek Jeter developed a serious interest in golf. Being the sporting genius that he is, Jeter quickly gained enough knowledge about the craft of the sport. Even to the point of impressing the ‘King Of Golf’, Tiger Woods.

The retired baseball legend who didn’t play golf during his days in the New York Yankees pinstripes became mesmerized by the sport after bidding adieu to baseball. Amidst casual rounds in Tiger Woods’ company, Jeter worked on improving his handicap. While Woods prepared for his return to competitive golf ahead of the Hero World Challenge in Albany. 

 

As the two were busy in practice, they had company joining in. Stepping onto the scene were former baseball player, Tino Martinez and the 2013 U.S. Open winner, Justin Rose. The practice sessions went on with the flow of expert advice and technical lessons. 

Woods had plenty of beneficial words to offer from the range of his golf catalog. Jeter was neither shy to learn nor to ask questions of his own. All doubts needed clearance to achieve perfection. So Woods taught all the tricks behind the long swing, the chip, and the short game.

Learning never ends for the curious 

In an interview with USA Today, Tiger Woods quoted about Derek Jeter saying, “He’s addicted to playing golf now. I had talked with guys who had played with him when he first started and they said he was spraying it around. But now he’s focused. He likes to practice, likes to play. He does his fitting. You can tell he’s analyzing his swing, he’s asking questions. He asked me a bunch of technical questions about the game. He wants to learn. And he asks the right questions.”

Jeter, speaking about his own experience, said, “This is a blast. You’re playing with Tiger Woods. Doesn’t get any better than that.”
