Major League Baseball may be spreading its wings further. America’s favorite pastime has gone through some changes in recent times as viewer statistics have lowered. But MLB’s latest rules may work in its favor yet and some fans are eager to see new baseball teams in their own cities. Among the most favored are Las Vegas; Nashville, Tennessee; Portland, Oregon; Charlotte, North Carolina; and Montreal. But there is another place that some are rallying for – Salt Lake City, Utah.
The metropolis’s strong economy and population growth, not to mention baseball history, may prove in its favor. Since teams like the Tampa Bay Rays and the Oakland A’s are in the process of possible relocation, MLB may not approve this plan just yet. But a certain group of people is set to lobby for the thirty-first MLB team, spearheaded by a former NBA owner.

The western state has a flourishing sports scene with the NBA’s Utah Jazz popular among fans. The team’s former owner, Gail Miller, is reportedly among a group of notable names that want baseball to officially come to their city. This coalition includes Utah residents and former major league players, Dale Murphy and Jeremy Guthrie.

ESPN’s Jeff Passan recently reported that this alliance also includes the Larry H. Miller Company, an organization founded by Gail’s late husband. The current CEO, Steve Starks, told Passan, “Salt Lake City is a major league city. We believe that as a top-30 media market in the fastest-growing state in the country with the youngest population, that’s where our attention should be — and that we could accomplish bringing a team to the Wasatch Front.”
While there have been no official comments from MLB, fans have opinions.
Divided baseball fans flood Twitter at the news of MLB expansion
It would be natural to assume everyone wants a baseball team from their city to call their own. And out of the 30 current MLB teams, the rest of the USA is left wanting.
Ugh Salt Lake City would be the worst possible destination. I think Nashville is the best choice. No one talks about it but San Juan would be wild too.

Are they going to be allowed to sell alcohol in that stadium? There are a lot of funny laws in Utah. Do you get a bogo if you bring more than one wife with you?

One fan wanted the league to fix its problems before heading toward expansion. One of them is figuring out the future of the A’s and the Rays.
Can we fix the issues of the game first before we expand? 1) Stadium situate in Oakland and Tampa. Tampa can work, A’s need to relocate. 2) Mandate a salary floor for teams. No more just putting luxury tax money in your pocket. Teams have to try and compete

Since this Utah city is a mountain region, fans are not so sure it will work well. One even referred to another MLB team that has not always had a great winning record.
Yeah because baseball in the mountains in Denver has worked so well

Overall, Utah is not a popular choice.
Not Las Vegas, not Montreal and not the countless other places but instead Salt Lake City??? Ummmmm… ok.
