Aaron Judge has been a star for the New York Yankees from the day he signed. But while his performances have not failed to impress, his record with the team has not been his claim to fame. Despite the team not missing the postseason since 2016, they have failed to generate any momentum despite giving themselves a chance every year. And it looks like the 2023 season might even be worse.

The New York Yankees are currently stuck in a terrible rut of form. Languishing at the bottom of the AL East with a losing record, the Yankees were looking to snap out of a streak against their arch-rivals, the Boston Red Sox on Sunday, but the game failed to deliver on its promise. With the Yankees succumbing to a tame 6-5 defeat on the night, it was a poor debut for Judge’s newly sponsored kicks.

Aaron Judge is more than just the Yankees’ key hitter. After his $360 million contract extension last season, Judge has been appointed the franchise’s Captain for the length of his contract and has seen his stock rise manifold.

The 2022 Homerun King in fact saw his value take a significant bump in the past few weeks as he signed on with the Jordan Brand in a new endorsement deal that is sure to push his stock value even higher. But his new deal does not seem to be bringing the star slugger any luck.

Debuting his new endorsement deal, Judge sported Double Gum-themed kicks for the game in honor of his well-known superstition while at the plate. Before coming out to bat, Judge pops a pair of double gums to chew. If he connects on his first outing, the gum stays in. He doesn’t change the stick until he makes an out.

And while the superstition may have held him in good stead before, the move failed to bring Judge much luck in his performance.

And while it is his performances on the diamond that back up his claims and deals off it, the Yankees will be hoping that their fortunes too will turn soon as they chase the post-season. Aaron Judge may have secured the bag with his new deal, but the Yankees post-season still remains a race in hot pursuit.
