The Los Angeles Dodgers are the champions of 2024. But now, the team could be losing one of their key players—Teoscar Hernandez. The San Francisco Giants have missed out on pursuing Soto, so, they could be aiming for Hernandez. According to Jon Heyman of the New York Post, the Giants were a ‘legit suitor’ for Soto, and with Buster Posey on the team, there was hope that he would inject some juice over the lifeless seasons that the franchise is dealing with.

However, the arrow seems to be navigating on a declining scale. Andrew Baggarly, from the Athletic, has already revealed that the Giants have “limited resources to spend this offseason—perhaps $30-40 million.” Another setback was they didn’t even score a face-to-face meeting with Juan Soto. The off-season feels a little too familiar, like the previous one. However, the team has advice pouring in to pull past the 85 wins; recently, Fansided’s Chris Landers suggested that if they are out of the gem of the season race, they could pivot to Hernandez.

Will the Giants go after Teoscar Hernandez?

Teoscar Hernandez has had a great year, smashing 33 home runs and helping anchor the Dodgers forward in the World Series. Plus, he even earned his first-ever All-Star nod in 2024. Now, Hernandez is one of the most exciting bats on the market, although the real kicker for the Giants is – he comes with a budget-friendly tag and short-term commitment. Spotrac is predicting a three-year deal for $71 million, which makes Hernandez perfect for the Giants, giving them a stellar player with strong firepower without handcuffs.

Chris Landers sees nothing but the opportunity here. “Hernandez offers middle-of-the-lineup punch without the commitment in both years and dollars that would stretch San Francisco’s budget,” he said while hinting that the Yankees and Dodgers are hooked on Juan Soto; so, this is the time to strike for the Giants if they want a deal with Hernandez.

The team could sneak in an excellent offer to Teoscar Hernandez, but there is a tricky situation here – Hernandez has his heart set on the Dodgers. “The Dodgers will be my priority in free agency. I will do whatever is possible to return. It’s not in my hands, but if it were, I’d pick them,” Teoscar Hernandez has previously noted, but it remains yet to be seen if a handsome offer can win his interest. Nonetheless, the Giants have another opportunity ahead.

Roki Sasaki is a rare gem for the Giants

Can the Giants lure Teoscar Hernandez away from the Dodgers, or is he LA-bound for good?

If budget constraints are a reality, there is one player team that the Giants can aim for – Roki Sasaki. Despite initial uncertainties about the Marines posting Sasaki, the Japanese star is now finally on his way to America. Sasaki is 23, and according to MLB rules, he is set to receive not more than $7 million as a bonus. While this constraint might be a blow to his past team, for MLB teams, it’s a rare opportunity – Sasaki as a pitcher is compared to stars like Yoshinobu, yet, he will be going for a much lower amount.

With money not being a criterion to choose, most have stated that Roki Sasaki is looking for smaller teams, who will help in his developing stage. Landers stated the reason: “For starters, this organization has made a lot of pitchers a lot of money over the years, and new pitching coach J.P. Martinez is a respected mind.” Plus, it’s also crucial to note that given Sasaki is an international player, frequent travels are on his cards – San Francisco to Japan; that’s a simple route.

Right now, the Giants have almost four players in rotation for the next season, but there is inexperience and injury risk association on the list. So, another arm would do the team good. Do you think they can clench Roki Sasaki? Let us know below.
