Wherever there are awards, there are credits. In the case of Gerrit Cole receiving his first Cy Young award, one person outshines the many others in his life. As the 6th Yankee Cy Young award winner, this person in particular has far more effect on his success than one can imagine. The ace was not shy about using praises for this special person.
Following the celebration of the amazing feat on Wednesday night, Pedro Martinez of the Yankees asked the right-handed hurler about whom he would most like to share the achievement with on MLB Network’s broadcast. His response was something that everyone was secretly rooting for.

Gerrit Cole’s childhood friend, and partner, Amy Cole, is the one to whom he attributes the balance in his life. Be it setting up the home, raising the children, or managing everything during the pandemic, it is she who was “the rock for all of us (Coles)”. Cole made sure the world knew that “She supported me(him) through all”. He went on further to credit her, “..as we transition to a new place, she plays a big role behind the scenes and so she the one that I like sitting next to when I receive it(the award)”.
"I take a lot of pride in going out there and representing the Yankees organization and all the great players that have come before us. To be joining them is truly very special and is part of a greater dream that I had as a kid" pic.twitter.com/1HoS7uOLF1

@TalkinYanks posted a clip of this adorable moment when the couple could not contain their happiness and all they could do was share smiles while receiving the honor. When Cole, 33, finished his homage to his wife, he grinned broadly. The two of them gave each other a warm embrace and blushingly chuckled about the occasion.
Greg Amsinger, the host of the program, also took that moment to turn it into a playful banter. He playfully exclaimed, “Well done, well done! We were all rooting that would be the answer. We were all rooting. Well done, Gerrit.”
The bond that the Amy-Gerrit duo shares is a special one that goes back to their days of youth. Amy was a softball player for the UCLA Bruins, and there was the genesis of their love story. She came across Cole during their time together. In 2016, they tied the knot. The couple are parents to two adorable sons, Everett, who was born in January 2023, and Caden, the elder one, who is three years old. Back in the day, little did they know that they would go on to become one of the most celebrated couples in MLB. Thanks to Cole Train’s stellar mound presence.

And finished second in Cy Young voting twice. He beat out fellow finalists Kevin Gausman and Sonny Gray for the top pitching honor this year, receiving all 30 first-place votes in the ballot of the Baseball Writers’ Association of America.
